#Occupy Your Mind – Let he who is without sin

occupy your mind

I find myself somewhat excited about recent event happening all across the states related to the Occupy Wall Street protest going on in New York. For years I have criticized the American people for spending more time watching American Idol, CSI and Desperate House Wives and less time caring about the state of our country and how this Gov’t has gone from a “government of the people, by the people, for the people” to a “you’re too stupid to do for yourself so instead we shall do it for you for your own protection from yourself”.

Yes, this country has gone astray from the plans our Forefathers had for us. Rather than being seen as a set of rules or guidelines, the Constitution, the most important document in the history of this nation, is used as a weapon to strike blows against political opponents. “Ignorance is bliss” is a politician’s guideline when trying to convince people to vote for them. The same can be said about any business, big or small.

But why does the population ignore the real problem? Ignorance. I know some people get offended very easily but sometimes the truth is necessary, lying has become too much a part of this current society. Politicians lie their way to important positions and then people spend the next 2 to 4 years convincing themselves that he/she didn’t lie, that someone else made it harder for them. And this is where ignorance comes in. As oppose to being stupid, which is permanent, ignorance is easily cured with education. but people these days don’t feel the need to educate themselves because they are either lazy or believe they are incapable of doing so. Our society has gone from “anything you can do, I can do better” to “I can only do so much”. I can spend this entire article blaming the Gov’t for creating this closed minded mentality, I can spend this entire article blaming businesses for abusing this mentality, but just like fire can only burn your hand if you put your hand in it by choice, the Gov’t and businesses can only create closed minded mentalities and abuse them if you put yourself in that situation.

Knowledge is power, which is why our society believes it has none because they have little to no knowledge. But you don’t have to be Albert Einstein to be educated at anything. I am not a baseball player yet I understand the game, I am not a software developer yet I understand how Windows works, I am not a scientist yet I understand E=MC2 and I am not a politician, but I understand why our nation is where it is today. And this is because I made it my business to understand, not necessarily make myself a pro at it, simply understand. I don’t have to be a lawyer to know that it’s illegal to search my property without a warrant or my permission. I don’t have to be a doctor to know that wound can get infected if not cleaned properly and quickly. I don’t even have to be a computer geek, a web designer or even have an IT title to find my way around Facebook, Google+ or even Amazon.com. It’s about understanding, it’s about researching, it’s about knowing even just a little bit about what you talk about before you talk about it. I learned this the hard way when I first started blogging many years ago and I spoke based on my feeling on a topic and not my knowledge of it. I ended up with a lot of egg in my face for that, it was a painful lesson that took years to get over because at that point I was labeled a troll.

I say this again, I am excited to see that some people have finally decided to voice their concerns, to stand up and fight for what they believe is right. But before they go around “Occupying” any place, they first need to “Occupy Their Minds”, they need to look inside and realize that Apple, Microsoft, Mobil, Exxon, AT&T, Amazon, Google, Coca Cola, Pepsi, KFC, McDonalds, Sears, Walmart, TacoBell, Nike, etc did not become big corporation because they stole our money, they did it because we gave it to them, willingly thru purchases, the elected Gov’t officials and more than anything, thru ignorance. The guilty line starts with you. Protest yourself before you protest others.

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”, words even an atheist can agree with.
